Why counseling?
At times we may be disillusioned by what we think needs to happen in order to be happy. We give our power away to others and think, ‘if only they would change…xyz” the relationship would be better. The reality is the only person that we have control over is ourself! You can’t control anyone else or their behaviors. Spend your energy focusing on the one person that you have control over, you. Therapy is not a one size fits all.
One of my favorite quotes, inspired by the movie "The Gladiator," is "what you do in life echoes in eternity." While pondering my career choice as an Accounting major during my Junior year of undergrad, I reflected on the prospect of finding fulfillment behind a desk, crunching numbers. Although accounting promised financial stability and made logical sense, the idea of limited interaction with others didn't resonate with me. Desiring a more meaningful impact on lives, I initially considered becoming a teacher. However, I questioned my affinity for working with children. After contemplating this for a semester, I made the decision to change my major and pursue a teaching certification.

Embarking on my journey into the counseling profession began with a role as a school teacher. The initial year proved challenging, prompting me to explore counseling as a means of understanding how to guide my students to meet my expectations. As the school year progressed, I realized the limitations in addressing my students' emotional needs. While I could assist them academically, their unmet emotional needs were affecting them behaviorally. The second year marked a significant shift as I implemented various behavior management techniques and prioritized building relationships with my students.

This transformative experience reshaped my motivation for entering the counseling field. No longer driven solely by the desire to control student behavior, I now sought education to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to competently support my students emotionally. My deep care for my students extends to my clients, demonstrating my dedication to supporting your emotional well-being.
